Blogging on the go

I have downloaded an app for my phone to see if I can blog remotely with ease.

Spent the afternoon watching Dr Brian Cox's The Wonders of the Universe. My brain is boggled, confused and mildly scared by it. But his reassuring dulcit tones, and happy smiling, ageless face makes the knowledge of the end of our world easier to bear.

Post Christmas colds and a scrappy New Year

Today is mostly about Matt playing Dirt3.  This is based largely on my proclamation that, after several months of Skyrim, I can no longer take it.  Not for the while at least.

I seem to have shot myself in the foot rather, as rally cars droning around are really rather distracting.  I have, however, managed to clean and rearrange the kitchen, make Matt lemsip (he has the Omega strain of Manflu, as a result of my cold) and heat his Christmas monkey (see below) so that he is warm and snug.  A productive morning at least.

Despite Matt's willingness today to allow me to watch TV, typically I find myself engrossed in my New Year project.  After weeks of being poorly and having many stomach related issues, I have finally decided to give in to an IBS related diet, and stop kidding myself that I can continue to eat the things I love as before.

So today is all about positives; finding foods and recipes that I know I will enjoy and that will not cause the frustrating and uncomfortable symptoms, and putting them into a diet for the New Year.
I have read much about a FODMAP diet, which is a diet aimed at reducing FODMAP foods which, predominantly due to malabsorption of fructose, cause many IBS symptoms.

FODMAP foods are:
  1. Fermentable
  2. Oligosaccharides (eg. Fructans and Galactans)
  3. Disaccharides (eg. Lactose), Monosaccharides (eg. excess Fructose) and
  4. Polyols (eg. Sorbitol, Mannitol, Maltitol, Xylitol and Isomalt)
Basically, it includes fruits like apples, mango, pears and cherries, vegetables like artichokes, asparagus, broccoli, onions and garlic, milk and many dairy products, wheat, rye.... the list is fairly endless.  There is, however, a good list of things that I can eat.  I intend to eliminate FODMAPs for 2 weeks, and then gradually start to reintroduce foods, so that I can work out my "trigger" foods.  I have a fairly strong belief that dairy, wheat and beans will be the answer!!

So this evening, we are going for a curry in Bradford (last supper?!) and then in the New Year, I shall attempt to (a) get better and (b) hopefully lose some weight in the process.

Oooh.  Apparently Matt has qualified for the final (racing game, remember?) - If only it were real.

RP without G - Skyrim begins...

That's it.  I've followed my sister-in-law into blogging.  Simply because I cannot, not for one second, consider spending one more evening watching RPGs.

Here is a list of my attempts to amuse myself thus far;

Knitting - tried, temporarily succeeded, but no longer distracts me due to difficulty of projects.
Kindle - only available with full lighting (therefore RPG avoidance fail)
Reading real books - see above.
Tormenting the dogs - they're just no fun once they're fed.
Christmas shopping - involves money.  Lots of it.
Texting - there are only so many people willing to contact you repeatedly over several hours without getting bored themselves.
Facebook - sigh....
Calling my mother - busy.
Calling my father - not busy.  Passed me back to my mother anyway.

Currently, Matt is trotting around in a vampire's cave, stealing money from a candle lit and cobweb encrusted table.  Vampires leave a lot of money just lying around it would appear.  He has an axe that, when used, not only hacks at those on the receiving end of it, but also engulfs them in a ball of flame.  Amazingly, those attacked still take several minutes to kill.  Personally, if a 6 foot 2 Yorkshireman with a flaming axe was marauding towards me with his cronies, I'd already be running in the opposite direction.
